Dress sword rests on right arm, while right hand holds a document, the rest of which is on the table, partly covered by left hand. A drawn curtain shows an encompment in the distance. On a table to the right is a cocked hat with rosette. Below, surrounded by the title, is an eagle displayed with shield and ribbon inscribed: "E Pluribus Unum." Border 2/16. Stipple. This is a modified copy of an original plate by the engraver David Edwin, identified as #788 in Hart (see P&E L2010F199 MP). On the Galland version, #789 in Hart, the title has been changed to honor John Barry, etc., and a rosette has been added to the cocked hat. This second variation of #789 in Hart is characterized by the removal of any acknowledgement of a publisher. A copy of the variation #789a in Hart, which acknowledges a publisher: "by Ferrai Dupin, Baltimore." in the lower right corner is catalogued P&E L1958.78.
