Bust, to left, full profile, in oval with 3/16 border to look like a frame in a rectangle cross hatched to appear like a fabric mat.
This copy of the intaglio by Du Simitière, which appeared in his Portraits of the Generals, London, 1783, is without letters. The artist drew this picture in the late 1770's when Laurens was in Philadelphia. Another engraving of this portait by Ritchie in vignette is catalogued as P&E L2005G40.48m.
This engraving was displayed in an exhibition at Anderson House titled, South Carolina in the American Revolution, from October 21, 2004 to April 9, 2005
