To the right, Bute, George III, Sandwich, and probably Germain are pleased, while a group of commoners, on the left, led by Wilkes, scowl. A tawdry, bare-breasted woman with a liberty cap on a staff falls down weeping. Published in London, it reflects how the British loyalists in London celebrated General Howe's victory at Long Island while American sympathizers, including a forlorn woman holding her liberty cap, express distress.
