The Rev. Jacob Duche, who later served briefly as chaplain to the first United States Congress before changing his allegiance to the Crown, is seen offered the opening prayer at this first Continental Congress in Philadelphia. He is wearing his clerical robes with Calvin tabs, and is kneeling at the Clerk's desk in front of the rostrum for the presiding officer. Members of the Congress are shown kneeling at their chairs or at the tables set for their use. Line and stipple engraving.
Below the title is reads: "From the original picture painted especially for this engraving." Below that is the information on the publisher and the copyright. In the lower right it reads: "Printed by Neale & Pate."
Framed in gold frame with inner beading; egg and dart running ornament. Black fillet & cream silk mat.
