Satire on William Eden, one of the commissioners to America in 1778, who was asked by Pitt to negotiate the Commercial Treaty with France but turned to America instead. He is compared with Benedict Arnold; depicts William Eden crying "Liberty," and Benedict Arnold brandishing a paper with Liberty written on it with 3 documents protruding from his coat pocket ("Commissio'n to America,""£6,000p'r annum,""Commerci'l negotiator to France.") At bottom: "Two Patriots (in the self same age was born) / And both alike have gaind the public scorn / This to America did much pretend / The other was to Ireland a friend. Yet Word, or Oratory, would not do / As each had different plans in view / America Lost! Arnold & alass! / To loose [sic] our Eden now is come to pass."
