Serapis and the Bonhomme Richard on September 23, 1779: "Commodore au service des Etats-Unis de l'Amerique, tel qu'il etait dans le combat du 23 7bre, 1779 contre le Commodore Pearson son Vaisseau le bon homme Richard montait 40. canons. le Vaisseau Anglais le Serapis 44. avait encore l'avantage du calibre, et le legerte le Commodore P. Jones, par sa maneuvre engagea le Beaupre de l'ennemi, et s'empara du Serapis en le combattant bord a bord pandant 2 hours 3/4 l'Action dure 3 houres et 3/4. Le bon homme Richard coula le lendemain."
