Possibly written ca. 1790 (cf. paper, backing and red-ruled borders of MSS L1999F106, Ode to Genl. Arnold)
Six lines in verse denigrating the sum offered as prize for best epitaph: " too small a boon to set the Poet's Muse in Tune" and "Pshaw! 'twould not buy the Paper."
Apparently removed from a commonplace book; laid down on blue sugar paper.
Provenance: Possibly "from the household of Dr. Cheston of Gloucester" -- see case file for L1999F106 and 107.
