The number "Acc #61" has been written on the back of the frame. This engraving was transferred to the Library from the Museum's 2nd floor vault in April 2000. Date from Miles. Gift of James Daniel Evans of the Virginia Society. Displayed on the mantle piece of the Main Museum Room until September 1955. Powell was a lieutenant-colonel in Grayson's 16th Virginia Continentals in 1777; fought in the battle of White Marsh and served at Valley Forge; resigned from the army in 1778. Member of the Virginia House of Delegates, 1779, 1787-1788, and 1791-1792.
