Andre pleads with three soldiers as he is captured in a field. His boots and hat lie on the ground. One soldier is reviewing his papers, which were said to have been in his boot. A horse awaits in the background. This print was part of an American Art Union program to make prints available to its members. Below the title it reads: "From a painting by A. B. Durand in the possession of the Hon.ble James K. Paulding. Published by the American Art Union exclusively for the members 1845." The seal of the American Art Union is centered in the midst of this statement. Printed by W. E. Smith.
