Full length to right, standing in uniform in front of a tent marquee overhang by a tree holding in right hand a roll of papers displaying top sheets inscribed "2" Declaration of independence when.., "3" Treaty of Alliance... His left hand is gloved and thrust into his waistcoat at the breast. At his feet are a number of torn documente, some inscribed "4" Protection to rebels on submission..., "5" Conciliatory Bills.... and at the bottom center, "A Proclaimation by... To Washington's left is a camp stool with cocked hat, scroll, spyglass and leaning against the stool, a walking stick. Behind and to the right is a table covered with a carpet and displaying a leather case and numerous papers and maps including one labeled "New Windsor." and another notice labeled "To His Execellency Gen.l Washington.... A small scrap of paper on the ground center right, reads: "N. Le Mire Sculp. 1780." In the background is a saddled horse with a slave attending it.
Below the title it reads: Grave d'apres le tableau original appartenant a M.r Marquis de la Fayette. Cette estampe ce vend avec Privilege du Roy a Paris chez le Mire Graveur rue et porte St. Jacques. Maison de M.r le Camus M.d. de Drap prix 12 livres.
Framed in 1997 in a black 1 1/2" frame with gold edge on the inside.
