Full length in uniform, head to left, standing on the field of battle at Yorktown, hat under left arm, and sword in hand. The right hand is pointing to the battle. To the left a horse is partly visible, held by his black servant, James Armistead Lafayette, Centered in the title within a wreath of olive leaves is the word "Liberte" and a liberty cap atop a pole. Below the title, divided on the left it reads: "L'Amerique etoit asservie, Ce Heros vint briser ses fers;" Divided on the right it reads: "Ses succes au dela des Mers Presageoient ceuz de sa Patrie." At the bottom of the print it reads: "Cette estampe se vend avec Privilege du Roi, a Paris chez le Mire, rue et Porte St. Jacques No. 122." Framed in 1997 in a black 1 1/2" frame with gold edge on the inside. This engraving is framed as a companion to the Le Paon and Le Mire engraving of Washiington, see P&E L1964.1067.2 framed.
