Signed: Painted by Fras. Wheatly; Engrav'd by Jas. Heath. Wheatley's painting was destroyed in a fire at James Heath's house in 1789 but the copperplate was saved. Boydell had paid Wheatley £200 for its use. In 1802, this print was still being sold by Boydells at 1 guinea. Depiction of the Gordon Riots (named for Lord George Gordon, president of the Protestant Association); the London mob who protested against the repeal of anti-Catholic laws in England was confronted with the forces of the City of London militia.
