Note
Two pencil sketch prints, each showing a different elevation of the house called Eldorado Plantation on the South Santee River, South Carolina.
Eldorado Plantation was built c. 1797 by Rebecca Motte for her daughter Elizabeth, wife of Gen. Thomas Pinckney. The plans were by Gen. Pinckney, and he contributed to the construction expenses. The house "unfortunately burned about a hundred years after its building." Notations by the artist, Alice R. Huger Smith, indicate that she produced these sketches in 1913 from photographs owned by Capt. Thomas Pinckney of Charleston.
Each of these reprints are one of 550 produced in 1988 by the South Carolina Historical Society to be given to friends of the society. These copies were given to the Society of the Cincinnati "in appreciation of your generous contribution to the South Carolina Historical Society."
