The "Memorandum of horses from whom receiv'd with their colour and marks," July 2, 1777-March 9, 1778, is pages 1-7 of the manuscript. The "Memorandum of Continental horses to what pasturs [sic] sent," July 8, 1777-September 6, 1777, is written back to front on the original manuscript, but is presented here in sequence as pages 8-10. The first memorandum lists about 150 horses that were acquired by various companies of Colonel Elisha Sheldon's Second Continental Light Dragoons during the Revolutionary War. The horses are identified by color and distinguishing marks, and by the owners who sold them to the army. The second memorandum identifies the locations of the pastures to which the horses were sent. Many of the horses were purchased from notable American military figures.
