See also letter of Lafayette to Willett dated April 12, 1826 (MSS L2011F213 M [Oversize]) remarking on his domestic routine and expressing his hopes that his fellow officers efforts with Congress for their pensions were meeting with success. On the back of the 1826 letter Willet had drafted his reply in which he says he has a likeness of Lafayette taken during the 1824-25 tour but "it is so different from what you was when I first saw you [in 1777] that caused me to enquire... whether you had not a likeness that was taken in your young days."
In this letter, dated December 25, 1828 to Willett, Lafayette writes: "I will continue my search after a print of your contemporary friend at the time he had the honor and delight to command the light infantry. I have not forgotten your kind wish to have a portrait of that date. But they are all gone to make room for the old figure you have last embraced."
