The classic scene of the signing in Independence Hall, Philadelphia, in July of 1776. John Hancock sits at the table to the right. Facing him are John Adams, Roger Sherman, Robert Livingston, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin, standing ready to sign the declaration on the table. The rest of the delegates to the Continental Congress watch in the background.
This print is matted with a French lined mat in a 2", 22k gold leaf frame with crosses and dots in the corners.
This engraving was done from the original painting by Trumbull, not the enlarged copy that hangs in the Capitol rotunda. The original painting is in the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, Connecticut.

Catalogued as P&E L1998G23.18a framed, is pen and ink key, picturing each of the 48 signers as shown in the Trumbull painting, identified by number, and accompanied by a copy of their facimilie signature as it appears, in most cases, on the Declaration.of Independence.
