Major Ferguson falls from a running horse while battle ensues behind him.
There are three copies of this print. One hand colored copy on sheet 20 x 26 cm., is an Illustration in the original edition of Tomes, Battles of America by sea and land:.., vol II, page 284, published by Virtue, Yorston and Company in New York in 1861. On this copy of the engraving, Cappel's name does not appear, nor the name of the engraver, C.H.Jeens. Below the title, the publisher, Virtue, Emmins & Co., Publishers, N.Y., appears followed by the copyright by John Emmins in 1859. The other two copies are from a later edition of the book, published by Patterson & Neilson, New York, copyrighted by Tomes in 1778. The illustration appears in Vol. I, p. 800, and on that copy both "Chappel" and "C.H.Jeens" are listed but the name of the publisher and copyright are missing. One of these copies is hand colored and carries the accession number L92.1.298.
