Battle scene with General Montgomery dying in the arms of Lieut. Matthias Odgen while Capt. Jacob Cheeseman and Capt. John MacPherson, Aides-de-Camp to Montgomery lie dead at Mongomery's feet. The dying men are surrounded by frightened and distressed American officers, a number of which would also be mortally wounded or killed in the battle. Colonel Joseph Lewis, "Chief of the Oneida Indians" is shown near the dying soldiers.
Centered below the engraving, between the letters for the painter and engraver, it reads: Published by John Trumbull, Jan.y 1.st 1808, No. 108 Broad-Way, New York" Centered below the title it reads: Printed by And.w Maverick."
The original painting, one of a series dealing with historical subjects by Trumbull, was completed in 1786 and is on display at the Yale University Art Gallery.
This engraving is framed in a 2" antique gold frame with a simple cream mat. .
This print was displayed in the exhibition, "New York in the American Revolution, which was on display at Anderson House September 29, 1990 through April 3, 1999.
