Petition in an unidentified hand to the President of Pennsylvania, Joseph Reed, in support of a widow, Elizabeth Pettit, who requested permission to return to her home in then-British occupied New York City: "tho her Eyes must meet there again with Objects mortifying to her Love of the American Cause …" Lovell (Mass.) and McDouglass (N.Y.) were members of Congress at the time; Morris was a Philadelphia lawyer; and Jones was a noted military physician. Passport to return to New York which a docket indicates was granted. Inlaid.
