Washington, standing to the left facing right, in uniform, hat in left hand, right hand extended toward the sword being passed to him by Cornwallis, who is standing to the left, left hand on sheath, right hand extending sword to Washington. Lafayette stands to Washington's right and three other officers, including Rochambeau, stand behind Washington. The American flag flies over head. Cornwallis accompanied by three ofricers and his horse apears in the background. The title appears on a separate tablet with elaborite borders below etching. Both the etching and the title are enclosed in a double line border, 1/16 and a ivory frame continues outward for 1 1/4 inches within the plate mark.
This appears to be a plate from a special illustrated verson of The Columbian: a poem, by Joel Barlow, published around 1807.
