A photograph of the painting showing the American ship Constitution still firing at the burning British ship Guerriere. The action depicted took place on 19 August 1812.
On the back of the mat board is a label that reads: "NR&L(OLD) 21234. Contitution vs Guerriere off the Canadian Coast by Anton Otto Fischer. Offficial U. S. Navy photo, not released for publication. Courtesy of the artist's daughter Katrina Sigsbee Fischer." In addition, the following is stamped on the back of the mat board: " Property of the Curator for the Department of the Navy - Office of the Chief of Naval Operations - Washington 25, D.C."
