Photographic reproduction of a painting, by an unknown artist, showing the ships Constellation, flying the American flag under Captain Thomas Truxtun, and Vengeance, flying the French flag under Captain Citizen Pitot, battling at close range in the West Indies on February 1, 1800. .
The label on the back of the mat board reads: "KN-3491. 6-29-82. Constellation and Vengeance - 1 February 1800. Official U. S. Navy photo by W. L. Johnson, PHS Releases courtesy of Arthur N. Disney, Sr. U.S.Naval Photographic Center. U. S. Naval Station. Washington 25, DC. CAB." Also, stamped on the back of the mat board it reads: " Property of the Curator for the Department of the Navy - Office of the Chief of Naval Operations - Washington 25, D.C."
