This is an Official U.S. Navy photograph, NPC(C)1778.
The photograph was a gift of the Naval Historical Foundation in June of 1956 and was given Museum no. 583.
In 1956, this photograph along with the companion photograph of Commodore John Barry (P&E L2009D4) hung on the east wall of the Manuscript Room at Anderson House. In 2009 both photographs were removed from their frames for storage in the library collection.
Stephen Decatur was made an honorary member of the Society of the Cincinnati in 1813 by the state of New York.
