Certificate signed by Rochambeau, granting membership in the Society of the Cincinnati to comte de Palys de Montrepos, who had served as a lieutenant-colonel in the French army corps of engineers during the revolutionary war. In the 1790s Louis XVI granted membership in the Society of the Cincinnati to lower ranking French officers who served in America and had risen to the rank of colonel or higher during the years following the war.
