Hardy orders inspection of carriage guns on baord HM sloop Shark whose guns "are several of them honey-comb'd and others so bad that it is dangerous to fire them" [signed] Wm. [Roper?] (no. 2) -- a.d.s. Charles Bush, Portsmouth, 11 Feb. 1744/45: The Isaac and Elizabeth is taking in one thousand barrels of powder and will sail [ for Minorca?] as soon as possible (no.3) -- a.l.s. Spithead, 4 June 1746, introduces the bearer, John L. Kolbe, inventor of new locks for firing canon, who is to instruct the gunners at Portsmouth in their use [signed] Jas. [illeg.] (no. 4)

Portsmouth Dock, 27 Oct. 1761 regarding Mr. William Hatt, gunner of HMS Royal George, who will be unable to "instruct the young gentlemen at the Royal Academyh in the art of gunnery" because "said ship is going to sea."
