Two companion compositions made up of 11 head and shoulder portraits of revolutionary war heros. On the left are the Civic Heros: Franklin, Hancock, S. Adams, Henry, Jay, Jefferson, R. Morris, R. H. Lee, Rutledge, Otis, and J. Adams. In the center of this composition is an American Eagle, Independence Hall, and the symbols of Liberty, along with the words: "Resistance to tyranny is obedience to God." On the right are the Military Heros: Marion, Greene, Stark, Kosciusko, Morgan, Lincoln, Putnam, Moultrie, Sumter, Warren, and Knox. In the center of this composition stands Lady Liberty with her sword and holding the flag of the United States with the Liberty Cap on top, surrounded by images of troops and the implements of war.
This is the center fold page from Ballou's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion, pp. 8-9. The dates of this issue do not appear on either side of the page, but it was probably published sometime in the 1850s.
