"For many years after or Victory at Yorktown [when Gen'l. Weedon commanded the American troops on the Gloucester (County) side of the York River] he celebrated at his "town-house" ... a great festival -- a Jubilee Dinner at which all of the Revolutionary officers then living in or near Fredericksburg Va. were invited. As it was an annual feast, & and day or so after Xmas Day, the same guests always attended & the ... lyrics writtten by Gen'l. Weedon sung...."
"Unfortunately the writer of these notes does not have the music ... and cannot find anyone whose forbears attended the dinners and were musical enough to set down the tune .... His mother Ann Page M.. Chewning saved these lyrics."
