Whole length, to left, seated upon setee, in front of tree, on the lawn at Mount Vernon, with right hand upon cane and a large hat beside him on settee, which is to extreme right of picture. In background, the mansion house; to left the Potomac with two skiffs under sail, cattle on the lawn, and two foxes in foreground. Double borderline 2/16. Above portrait, title. Below four lines of text "An example to the citizens; an ornament to the Republic; invested with the highest executive magistracy, he well performed the duty of protecting industry and restraining fraud and violence; and at length he enjoyed, for a short time, a dignified repose.
