His left arm rests on the arm of the chair, while his right arm rests on the writing desk to this right, and he holds a note to the King in his right hand, labeled "Au Roy." A portrait of Louis the XVI appears above the writing desk. The luxurious setting and attire reflect Vergennes' prestige in the French government.
