When Robert Clive took over as the master of Bengal, he abolished the payment direct to the officers and took the payment over on behalf of the East India Company; then the whole army threatened to resign. For his part in fomenting this mutiny Fletcher was tried. This pamphlet while reporting the trial, prefaces it with an essay (giving Fletcher's military record) against Clive and for Fletcher.
