A circular letter to the Deputy Quartermasters requesting an account of "all things appertaining to the Department ... taking proper receipts for the Stores as they are delivered, and rendering Returns ..." to the new Quartermaster General [Timothy Pickering] A postscript mentions his concern that "the tongue of malevolence should make free with my character" and that he is enclosing a copy of the Commander-in-Chief's letter [not present] that "will be sufficient to stifle any unjust or ungenerous insinuations to be prejudice." Abstracted in The Papers of Nathanael Greene, vol. 6 (Chapel Hill, 1991), p. 241. Apparently from an unidentified collection of manuscripts dated Aug. 1 1817. In another hand, at head of p. [1]: Maj. Gen. Nathaniel [sic] Greene, of the Revolutionary Army [no.?] 51; on p. [2]: Moses Younglove, Surgeon to Gen. Herkimers' Brigade. (Brig. General Nicholas Herkimer commanded the N. Y. militia during the Revolutionary war.) Watermark: WMT Page [2] trimmed and pasted down to verso of p. [1] Also pasted to p.
