Note
Howseal, appointed by the Commander-in-Chief to be translator from the English, German, and French languages to His Majesty's Army, writes on behalf of Michael Roeder and his wife Gertrout concerning the fate of their son Henry, a carpenter in the Engineering Dept. of His Majesty's army who accompanied the expedition to Charlestown.
The Roeders request return of Henry's effects should he be deceased.
On p. [2], in a different hand: "Mr. Wray will pleas [sic] to sind [sic] his letters for the parants of the deseased in Commissary grants packet & direct them for your humble sarvent [signed] W. Smith, Master, Carpenter Engineers Department.
With integral address leaf (partially detached and mended
