Note
View of the battlefield with Washington in the center, urging his troop forward. The officer to Washington's left is probably General Green, and the wounded officer being led away on horseback on the right is probably Colonel Campbell.
Below the title appears, "From the original painting by Chappel in the possession of the Publishers."
This is an illustration from Dawson's Battles of the United States, Vol. 1, between pages 714 and 715.
This engraving also appears as an illustration in Spencer's History of the United States, Vol. 2, between pages 130 and 131, but "Painted by Alfonzo Chappel" appears below the engraving and no reference is made to the painting in the possession of the publisher nor to the publisher, Johnson, Fry and Co, although the copyright appears. See P&E L1981.1.312m.
