Note
Full figure, standing, facing left, with head to the right, in uniform. His left hand rests on his hip and is holding his hat. He holds a paper in his right hand which rests on the the barrel of a cannon. In the background a group of soldiers appear to be taking a fort and raising a flag. The title is a facsimile signature.
Below the facsimile signature it says, "From the original painting by Chappel in the possession of the publishers," followed by the information on the publisher and the copyright.
This engraving appears in Duychinck, National protrait gallery of eminent Americans, Vol. 1, between pages 222 and 223.
Benjamin Lincoln was an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati from the state of Massachusetts.
