The engraving was published June 1, 1796, six months before Wayne's death. It pictures Wayne as Commander and Chief of the Army of the United States. A copy of this engraving was owned by George Washington and is in the inventory of items found in the dining room at Mt. Vernon.
There are three photographic copies of the engraving. Two are silver gelatin and the third is glossy. All three are stamped "The Metropolitan Museum of Art".
The silver genatin copys are from the Bryce Metcalf collection and the Thomas collection.
Anthony Wayne was an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati from the state of Georgia, later from Pennsylvania.
