Concerns ill-clad and ill-equipped soldiers: "You have been misinformed as to colthing, there was not a single article to spare after furnishing the Dragoons, my own servants & Colo. Posey's troops are in great distress for want of shoes shirts & overalls....:
"I send you a gill of spirits for each man with you ...."
On address leaf: I was mistaken in the quantity of spirits - it falls short of what I expected [sic]. A.W.
"The Virginians have marched upwards of three hundred miles barefoot in which situation they still continue."
With integral address leaf, which bears "Public Service" frank; docketed "From Genl Wayne Apl 24, 1781."
