After the New York Assembly was disolved for failure to comply completely with this law, a new Assmenbly made the required provisions. The patriots considered its passage a betrayal, and the ensuing friction culminated in the "Battle of Golden Hill, 19 Jan. 1770 -- see Boatner. Encyc. of the American Rev.
