Portrait of Thomas Mauduit, half-figure to the left, in uniform aboard ship with another sailing vessel on the horizon to the left. On his left lapel he wears the eagle of the Society of the Cincinnati and the Ordre of St. Louis. Oval. Centered within the title below is a small engraving of a slave resting and looking weary after digging a grave with other graves in the background. Below it reads: "Esclve par attachement, ma liberte fait mon malheur.".
Below the title it reads: "Ses Soldats qui l'aimoient comme leur Pere etleur ami, l'assassinerent trompes par des Factieux, le 4 Mars 1791. (Voyez le Resume de sa vie ci-apres)"
