Note
Full length, standing, facing slightly to the left. Left hand rests on a paper on a table. He holds a folded paper in his right hand. Just below the left lapel of his coat is pinned the Eagle of the Society of the Cincinnati. The table to the right is draped with inkwells, paper and books on it, and a large volume leaning against a leg on the floor. Behind and to the left is a chair with a cape. In the background is a column and drapes and clouds. Below the title it reads: "Printed by Reynolds"
This is a photograph of the only known copy of this mezzotint engraving by George Graham. It is after Trumbull's full length "Jay Type" portrait of Hamilton.
Imprinted at the bottom right of the photograph "The Metropolitan Museum of Art" [MM5412G] indicating that the photograph was taken of the original mezzotint which is part of the museum's collection.
