In June, 1761 the Council expresses their "joy and exultation on the entire reduction of the important Island of Belleisle ..."; in October, they send word to their representatives in Parliament "that you entertain just sentiments of the importance of the conquests made in this war, by the British arms ... the sole and exclusive right of our acquisitions in North America, and the fisheries, be preserved to us."
