Note
A photograph of the painting of the Bonhomme Richard, flying the American flag, firing at the Serapis, flying the British flag in battle. Two other boats are also engaged in battle in the background. The photograph includes the plaque mounted on the lower edge of the picture's frame which states the title and the painter along with "Gift of the United States Naval Insititue to the United States Naval Academy."
On the back of the mat board is a label that reads: "KN-128, Action between the Bon Homme Richard and Serapi's. Official U.S. Navy Photo by Naval History Division Released. U. S. Naval Photographic Center, U. S. Naval Station, Washington, D. C." In addition the following information is stamped on the back of the mat board: "Property of the Curator for the Department of the Navy - Office of the Chief of Naval Operations - Washington 25, D.C."
