Typical payments include wages, clothing, and enlistment bonuses; among equipment issued are kettles, guns, canteens, tomahawks, tents, and cartridge boxes. On 4 Oct. at Ticonderoga, " Received 10 coats, 7 baynets, 2 knapsacks, 1 baynet sling, 1 pistle, 1 fife, 2 quires of paper, 1 ladle, 1 brass kettle ... 40 tomehaucks, 36 pairs of shoes ... [etc.]. Other details include death benefits and forfeitures "by desertion."
