Note
John Robertson is not precisely identified; a John Robertson (d. 1810) was in the 6th Virginia Regiment; he may be the same individual who, as commissary of issues, is probably the author of this account book. See especially p. [177-180], which lists him as DCG (deputy commissary general). A third John Robertson was a militiaman from Chesterfield Co., Virginia; he too may be the same as this John Robertson, a Scot by birth (p. [120])
Arms and accoutrements include flintlocks, cartridges, swords, screw drivers, ram rods, bayonets, slings, cartouch boxes, etc.
Supplies commonly mentioned: beef, candles, flour, fish, fresh pork, peas, rum, whiskey, brandy, and salt.
Post-war entries chiefly devoted to students and educational matters at Robertson's school in Albemarle County or to his personal agricultural and domestic endeavors there. Limp board covers with leather spine, mostly gone. Pages [1-2], [67-84], [ 121-122], [183-184] partially torn or worn away, affecting text; others, completely lacking except stubs, not included in paging.
