Summary
Narrative of the three naval battles fought between the French fleet under the comte de Guichen and the British fleet under Admiral Rodney off Dominica on 17 April and 15 and 19 May 1780. The account describes the departure of the French fleet from Fort Royal, French and British naval maneuvers during the engagements, damage and losses sustained during the campaign, and the fleet's return to Fort Royal.

Émile Garnault identified a later printed version of a text with the same title (Bordeaux: Imprimerie A. Bellier, 1890) as the work of Clémot, chief surgeon aboard Le Citoyen, possibly Joachim Clémot (1742-1807). Authorship of the present manuscript has not been established.
Pierre Conlon records a printed relation with a similar title (Relation authentique des trois combats [...], Marseille : J. Mossat, 1780, 4 p., quarto). The relationship between that publication and the present manuscript is unknown. See Pierre M. Conlon, Le Siècle des Lumières. Bibliographie chronologique, XIX, 1779-1781 (1999), p. 265.
