Summary
A salary receipt signed by H.[Henry] G. Pendleton for December 28th [1777] through March 26th, 1778, for Eight Hundred and Fifty Five pounds, Sixteen Shillings, Three Pence, dated June 23rd, 1779.
A letter From the Government House, Charleston, July 1, 1784, with integral address to James McCall, Esquire/ Auditor & Accountant General: "The Governor presents his compliments to the Auditor & Accountant General, if it will be attended with no inconvenience to his place of business. The Honorable Judge Pendleton who is shortly to quit this state for the benefit of his health, will be much accommodated by auditing his account."
Note
Henry Pendleton, a Judge of the Courts of Law of South Carolina also served as an aid to General Nathanael Greene during the Revolutionary War.
'Mr. Pendleton, a judge from South Carolina, a remarkably tall man, with a very distinguished countenance; he had the courage to hang three Tories at Charleston, a few days before the surrender of the town, and was accordingly in great danger of losing his life, had he not escaped out of the hands of the English, though included in the capitulation' (Chastellux, Travels in North America, 1:131).
