Signed by William Alexander; countersigned J.W. [?] Guion.
"Know ye, that the name Will. White, subscribed to the Copies hereunto annexed, is in the proper handwrirting of William White Esquire who was at the time of signing the same and now is the Secretary in and for the State aforesaid."
William White was the second secretary of state of North Carolina, serving from 1798-1811.
Nathaniel Alexander was a surgeon in the 2nd Regiment South Carolina Line during the Revolution; he served as governor of North Carolina from December 10, 1805-December 1, 1807.
Gift of Roy Alton Duke, Jr., a member of the North Carolina Society of the Cincinnati.
