Washington writes about Woodford's new appointment by Congress as a brigadier general, explaining that he was "named after Muhlenberg and Weedon" (who were once inferior in rank) because Woodford had previously resigned his commission as colonel. He urges Woodford to accept the new appointment: "consider what a stake we are contending for--Trifling punctilios should have no Influence upon a Mans conduct in such a Cause; and at Such a Time as this...when our All is at Stake, and a single cast of the Die may turn the Tables..."
