Note
Contents: William and Margaret McIlvaine letter, 10 Jan. 1775, requesting permission to visit Mrs. McIlvaine's sister Hannah, who is ill (1) -- William Rodman's response of the same day granting permission (2) -- McIlvaine's letter 6 Aug. 1776 reporting ill health of wife and child, but "as I could not at present leave my Post without incurring the greatest Censure, I would proceed with my Men to the Place of our Destination [i.e. Woodbridge]." Requests his father-in- law to monitor their situation and to provide written advice of deterioration so that he could present the letter to his commanding officer (3) -- McIlvaine's letter 13 Aug. 1776: "I was appointed Surgeon ... which makes my Pay at present Sixty Dollars per Month, with Rations equal to a Lieutenant Colonell." Also reports on the enemy on Staten Island and on the arrival of fleet carrying Hessian troops bound for New York.
