Note
Records the contents of the original document written by Richards for his son around 1831 (whereabouts of the original manuscripts unknown).
Mostly written on one side of leaf only, except p. 34-47 [i.e.48].
Number 47 repeated in paging.
Samuel Richards was an officer and regimental paymaster of the 3rd Connecticut Regiment and became an original member of the Connecticut Society.
Richards witnessed and recorded many of the major events of the war. Reflecting on his wartime service, Richards wrote: " ... being preserved to the age of 78, I say with my feeble voice to my children and grandchildren, of whom God has given me numbers, should an equal imperious call of duty ever press on you--go and do likewise."
