Giddings enlisted in 1777 in the 1st Connecticut commanded by Col Samuel Prentice and was discharged in Springfield, N.J. in May 1780|He swears to have no debts owing to him, nor does he have an income other than that mentioned in the document, such as one "old cow ... which with 3 sheep ... and one hog are by law exempt from execution for debt...."|"The home became so decayed rottten & dangerous that it had been torn down since the former application , and I now live in a house belonging to my son."|"I could not have supported myself to this time without assistance from friends"
